It’s All in the Details

I LOVE shooting the details of an event! By that I mean, all the things a bride will pick out to make her wedding special and have her touch to it… from the shoes, to the dress, to the venue and decor, to the flowers and rings.  I think it is so important to capture it all because so much time goes into this part of the planning and makes each wedding unique. I find that I now see the world this way too. When I am on vacation,  I even shoot the “details” of a place. I might have random pictures of door knobs, textures, arches, flowers, statues, etc. You get the idea.

So as you walk through life don’t forget to check out the little things that you might miss.  You don’t have to be a photographer to see the details of what is around you… just pay attention.  Here are some images that I came across recently while cleaning off my computer.

Playdate in a Prison

Several times a year I get together with my photography BFFs for a “playdate”.  A playdate for us is exploring a location we have not been to before, trying out new techniques or equipment that we can not practice on the job, new posing ideas, etc.  A lot of the time this involves trespassing. This time though, we were good kids and got permission… thanks to Ed and Andrew Harris.

We chose Casemates as our location for this session.  Casemates is the old prison built in the 1830s.  It is now part of the National Museum of Bermuda.  A lot of Bermudians remember the prisoners hanging out of the windows and yelling at the passersby. Currently, it is being restored to be used as a museum so we wanted to capture it as is before it changes too much. And we just like to explore… It was a beautiful day for the shoot. I have to say, those prisoners had some of the best views in Bermuda!  Thanks so much to Ed and Andrew for allowing us the opportunity.  I see a Trash the Dress session here in the near future… anybody game?

We found this vintage, old luggage in one of the rooms… I guess someone was in a hurry to leave!

These stone steps, and the way the light was hitting them, reminded me of Italy or maybe Greece… ‘sigh’

You could still see a lot of the “artwork” that the prisoners wrote on the walls… lots of which was not appropriate to post here.

Barbara Sam - September 18, 2012 - 10:48 pm

Good Evening,

I am writing to inquire of your engagement packages. I will be in Bermuda in December from the 15th to the 1st of January 2013. I was wondering if I could book an engagement session with you between those times?

Thank you

Barbara Sam

Steph and Mark at Commissioner’s House

It is that time of year… wedding season is right around the corner,  I am busy shooting engagement sessions, and “Here Comes the Bride” is playing in my head.  How is it April already!!??  I don’t quite feel ready for summer yet, but I am trying to wrap my brain around it.  I am excited for this year’s wedding season because I have some really great couples and I know it is going to be a good year.

Stephanie and Mark are getting married next month in Miami. They wanted to do an e-session here in Bermuda so they could use the photos throughout their wedding.  We chose Commissioner’s House as the location and it fit them perfectly.  We had a fun time getting to know each other… and dodging the sheep.  Next stop, after the “I dos”, is a Trash the Dress session…. and then happily ever after.  These guys know how to do it right!!

Lucy in the Freesias

Happy first day of Spring! I hope that wherever you are, that you can smell the scent of spring flowers in the air like we can here. It is heavenly! My favorite thing about spring are the freesias. I have them on my desk every day. We probably only have about a week left of their divine scent. I make sure that I get as many sessions in the flowers as I can. This year I had just the perfect girl in mind.

I don’t know if you remember little Lucy, but she sure gave me a run for my money in her newborn session. See her last post here. Well, Lucy just turned one…already!  She is such a little doll and was the perfect model this time around.  She was all smiles and laughter, showing of her new teeth.  I had such a great time with her.  I photographed Lindsey and Jay’s wedding and it has been such a pleasure to watch their little family grow. Thank you Lucy for being such a star! xx

Miracles Really Do Come True!

Happy Valentine’s Day!  It has been a year since I started this blog so to celebrate, I want to share a very special session with you.  I have been waiting a long time to show off this little angel.  Introducing Bailey Frances, a true Bermudian miracle.  Bailey is proof that dreams do come true and if you want something in your life, you have to have faith.  It just might not come in the form you would expect.

Bailey arrived at just the right time and just the right place to fill my friend Rhonda’s heart with love. She is the first local private adoption in Bermuda and I feel very honored to have been chosen to capture this blessing.  Rhonda and I were best friends when we were 6 years old and reconnected when I moved back to Bermuda 4 years ago. We were having lunch one day and Rhonda was talking about having a baby.  I think it was only a few weeks later that the opportunity to adopt Bailey presented itself. And so you have it.

Rhonda is truly a brave and dynamic woman to ride the emotional roller coaster that she did to bring Bailey home. Being that it was the first adoption of this sort in Bermuda, it took longer then expected.  Rhonda was strong throughout the whole process, knowing in her heart that Bailey belonged with her.  This session really is one of my best baby sessions ever and I can not tell you how hard it was not to be able to share it… but it certainly was no where near as hard as the wait to hear that your baby is truly yours …forever.

So enjoy and remember that miracles really do come true!

I have known Rhonda for almost 20 years and all I can say Becky is ‘ditto’ This couldn’t have happened to a more wonderful and deserving person. Rhonda and Bailey are lucky to have found each other. A perfect match
